ANGUSalive Macmillan Cancer Information and Support – Arbroath

Cancer information and support service based in libraries across Angus. Offering information booklets, signposting and support.
Support can be delivered by phone, email or face to face. Our weekly drop in session is on Fridays 1pm-3pm. Service is open to any one who has questions about cancer or are looking for support.
We also have a peer support meeting on Fridays 11am-1pm.
 

Angus Dementia Resource Centre

 

The Angus Brain Health & Dementia Resource Centre aims to support people with dementia, their families, relatives and friends at any stage of the illness.

The following support is on offer:

  • Information and advice
  • Community activities for people with dementia and carers
  • Peer support groups for people with dementia and carers.

Arbroath Connections

Arbroath Connections is a dementia-friendly charity and a Meeting Centre.
We are a warm and welcoming place for people living with dementia and for their unpaid carers and families.
We offer activities, company, fun, support, and a safe space to stay connected.
 
No referral is needed.
No diagnosis is needed.
Families can come to us as soon as they feel ready.
 
The Centre is open to members from 10am to 3pm every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.
The Manager can be contacted 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.

Arbroath Eyes & Ears by North East Sensory Services

Sensory Impairment, Social Activity, Support Group.  The group is a social and information group for people experiencing sensory loss in the Arbroath area.

What do you do?

We have guest speakers suggested by the group and also plan to have some outings. We also have some time for a cup of tea and a chat.

How do I join?

Either just come along to the group or contact Cilmi Eldho at NESS.

What is the subscription or cost to members?

Currently all it costs is £1 donation towards teas and coffees.

Arbroath Family Support Team

The four Family Support Teams provide services for children, young people, and their families aged 0-16 years, providing a range of early intervention services on an individual and group work basis.  Services are provided depending on the needs of each child and family.

We don’t think anyone in our community should have to face going hungry. That’s why we provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to us in crisis. We are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.

Our main client groups are: Unemployed people, Carers, Lone Parents, people with health conditions, and  people in receipt of Universal Credit in Perth & Kinross.
 

Age Group: Primarily aged 18+ but also 16 and 17 year olds.

Criteria for working with our clients: Mainly unemployed people in receipt of Universal Credit, Jobseeker’s Allowance, Employment Support Allowance, Income Support although anyone with a disability can access services.

Other Information: Specialist Advisor Support including Access to Work and specialist disability services. Access to jobs across the UK and Europe, training opportunities, job search assistance, work experience placements, sector based work academies and Work Trials. Assistance provided to Employers with using our Universal Jobmatch service to advertise vacancies.

Arbroath Learning Shop @ The Saltire (part of Angus Vibrant Communities)

The Learning Shop at The Saltire Centre offers adults support with new and complex literacy skills needed for everyday life (Drop-in sessions Tues/Wed/Thurs 10.00am – 12.00pm)

• Learning to use mobile phones or personal tablets and laptops
• Getting help to learn the digital skills we all need to pay bills, apply for jobs, make appointments and keep in touch with family and friends.
• Learning how to manage dyslexia and get support using dyslexia tools at home or at work
• Improving reading, writing or numeracy skills and becoming more confident with handling information
• Getting first qualifications, preparing for college, the driving theory test, employment, entrance tests or training courses at work

Aware

AWARE works with children and young people, aged 4-18 years, living in the Angus area who have experienced or are still experiencing domestic abuse.

AWARE empowers children and young people across Angus to explore their options and make safe choices. It is a free and confidential service.

AWARE provide the following services

  • Needs led one to one support
  • Issue focused group work
  • School information sessions
  • Community workshops

On a range of topics including domestic abuse, court, contact issues, healthy/unhealthy relationships, consent, sexual health, image sharing and online abuse, self-harm, safety planning and stereotypes. It should be noted that there is a cost involved with school sessions.

Hillcrest Futures Arbroath

We provide support to more than 1000 people across Angus, Dundee, Edinburgh, Fife, Glasgow and Perthshire.

We support people with learning disabilities and Autism, mental health, complex needs, people who have experienced or are at risk of homelessness, and the care needs associated with older people.

Support can be provided in a residential setting or in the client’s own home as appropriate.

Mum and Me

Mum and Me is a long term, nurturing mums support group. We run a creche for preschool children so mums can get time to themselves. During group time mums get to enjoy each others company, gain support, learn from each other, enjoy a cuppy and develop life skills such as crafts and cooking. We have together time with the mums and children which includes messy play, story and songs and outings in the community to soft play, swimming or local parks. We run groups Weds, Thurs and Friday morning 10-12am and Weds and Thurs afternoon 1-3pm. TCA Kith & Kin Service

TCA’s Kith & Kin service provides support to Kinship Families throughout Angus, where children and young people (aged 0-18 years) have been affected by parental alcohol/substance use and now live in Kinship Care.  Our aim is to encourage and empower Kinship family members

Kith & Kin offer a range of provisions for children, young people and their carers, this may include: 1:1 support within school settings, out in the community or at home; emotional support & guidance at home; peer groups; family activities and events during school holidays; advocacy and attendance at meetings; signposting to other services; and access to creative therapies.

We have weekly groups held during school-term time in our TCA Arbroath office, which can be accessed by Kinship families after they have been referred to us.
