Bipolar Scotland

Beyond Diagnosis offers adults in Scotland that are newly diagnosed with bipolar the unique experience of engaging with Peer Worker and Peer Volunteers – these are people who also live with bipolar and understand what you’re going through. We can work with you for up to six months to support you navigate your new diagnosis and hep you to feel more confident managing your bipolar as you move forward.

We are open to anyone 16+ who lives in Scotland and has been diagnosed with bipolar within the last 12 months. Support is delivered remotely using telephone and/or video call.

Change Mental Health

Our aim is to improve the quality of life for anyone whose mental health problems or mental illness has a serious impact on their life and on the lives of others, including family members, friends and supporters.

We believe

  • That every individual has the right to be valued, and to share in the opportunities, enjoyment, challenges, responsibilities and choices of everyday life
  • That those who experience mental illness, and mental health problems, their families and carers and friends, are entitled to quality support in the community or in hospital, or in their own homes as they choose
  • That those who need care and support should be enabled to play an active role in the decisions that impact on them
  • That people affected by serious illnesses, like schizophrenia, have a specialised knowledge and expertise, which will be reflected in all that we do

Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland

Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland works locally in Angus to improve the quality of life for people after a stroke, or diagnosis of a chest or heart condition.

We can:

  • provide vital advice, support and information
  • arrange group and 1-1 support in hospital and in your local community
  • provide volunteering opportunities across Angus

Healthcare Improvement Scotland Community Engagement

We believe people and communities should be able to use their skills and experience to design and improve the health and care services that matter to them.

People should also have the opportunity to work together with the organisations that provide those services. We work with policy makers and service providers to ensure that people and communities are involved in planning and developing local health and care services.

Previously known as the Scottish Health Council, we launched in April 2020 with a focus on:

  • best practice for engaging with individuals and communities to shape local services and influence national policy
  • equality and human rights to ensure everyone’s voice is heard
  • collaborating and working in partnership, and
  • sharing learning.

PMR-GCA Scotland

Through the website, Helpline and Support Group meetings the charity offers information, help and support throughout Scotland to those with PMR and/or GCA, and to their family and friends. For those in Angus, Dundee, Perth and Fife the nearest Support Group meets for a cuppa and a chat on the third Tuesday of each month at 11am in the hall of St. Mary’s Church in the Overgate, Dundee.

Re-engage

Re-engage is a charity that is positive about older age and committed to fighting loneliness so that people can have social lives and friendship groups however old they are.  We inspire and enable meaningful connections and shared experiences within communities across the UK for people over 75 facing loneliness and social isolation.

Our volunteers work together to create better communities and help to enrich the lives of our members by giving them something to look forward to.

Older people who may have felt very alone, now feel valued as individuals, continue to form friendships, and have groups that give support. We make sure that people know they are important well into old age.

Our tea parties are free monthly social groups open to people aged 75 and over. They are a chance for a change of scenery and regular afternoons of conversation and laughter with friends of all ages. Guests are taken there and home again by a volunteer driver so don’t need to worry about organising travel.

Call companions is available to anyone aged 75 and over who would benefit from a regular chat over the phone with a friendly volunteer.

Rainbow call companions is an award-winning free service for older LGBT+ people who are lonely, isolated or in need of companionship and feel they would enjoy a friendly phone call every week or two with a volunteer who is also LGBT+.

Real Life Options

Real Life Options was first established in 1992 to support and empower people with learning disabilities and autism to have more choice and greater control over their lives. Over the last three decades, we have grown to become a national provider of social support and care while staying true to our core ethos.

As a registered charity we support over 1,500 people across the UK to help develop their independence and achieve their potential. We recognise that to be excellent in our field, we need to truly understand and champion the changing needs and aspirations of the people we support. Through partnerships with families, thought-leader organisations and professional services, we believe in constantly evolving and providing a person-centred approach at every step in an individual’s support journey.
