Angus Birding

Established in 2000 – 18 years and counting!

The aim of the forum is to provide current information (and be a referral for past records) of Birds, Mammals and Cetaceans in the Angus and Eastern Scotland area.

This is done via a forum which is open to the public and where sightings can be posted and viewed. Sightings are obviously not guaranteed but filtered as best as possible, and news regarding sensitive species may be edited if need be. It is also a handy place to post your photographs, ask questions, meet local wildlife enthusiasts and promote local wildlife events.

Location

Montrose Basin Heritage Society

Montrose Basin Heritage Society (MBHS) was formed in 1999 to promote the study and understanding of the natural and historical development of the Montrose Basin area. Montrose Basin is an SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) and a RAMSAR (internationally important wetland site).

Montrose lies at the eastern end of the South Esk River where it flows into the North Sea. Once a broad estuary, the access to the sea has been partly reduced by a spit of land laid down from the northern side of the river. Montrose town now lies on this spit, with its medieval core located on the highest point.

The MBHS area of study is the parishes adjacent to the Basin – Montrose itself, Dun, Maryton and Craig, but the nature of the study and its location adjacent to Montrose – an international port for over one thousand years – means information may be available on a much greater area – with links to many areas around the world.

Murton Trust

Murton Trust manages a thriving nature reserve, visitor farm and tea room, on the outskirts of Forfar.  Murton provides a unique environment in which children, young people and adults can learn and develop skills for life. We wish to enrich people’s lives by using our site as an educational tool that has a positive impact on all ages.

As a Scottish charitable organisation with a dual purpose, situated on a former sand and gravel quarry, Murton Trust manages and enhances the natural heritage on the 100 acre site and currently utilises the landscape to provide opportunities for young people from Angus and Dundee (aged 14-19) who are disengaged from formal education, to gain meaningful vocational qualifications or work experience in hospitality and land based skills.

Murton Trust is a Scottish Qualification Authority (SQA) accredited vocational training centre, our education programmes make significant differences to the futures of challenged young people.  We support those currently at school and those who have left school with no positive destination who are at risk of future social and employment exclusion, as a consequence of little or no school achievements.

We also operate Murton Tots Outdoor Playgroup throughout term time, working with pre-school children in an outdoor setting introducing them to the benefits of playing outdoors and experiencing nature at an early age.

Scottish Badgers

Scottish Badgers brings together individuals and groups from across Scotland to promote the study, conservation and protection of Scotland’s badgers, their setts and natural habitats. Together, we seek to encourage tolerance and appreciation of badgers by offering information, advice and guidance to all.

Scottish Badgers is the only charity dedicated to the study, conservation and protection of badgers that operates in Scotland. Please note that Scottish Badgers is not affiliated with, or a branch of the Badger Trust. The Badger Trust is not involved in any work protecting badgers in Scotland.

Scottish Badgers is an independent Scottish charity. It was founded in 1999, with encouragement from the Scottish Government, who perceived a need for a non-statutory body to work in this field.

Scottish Badgers cooperates closely with the Badger Trust, whose activities cover all the other areas of the British Isles. It should be noted that only Scottish Badgers operate in Scotland.

Cats Protection Lifeline

Cats Protection’s Lifeline is a specialist fostering service supporting people who are experiencing domestic abuse. By fostering with Lifeline, you’ll be helping us to support someone in need of a temporary home for their cat.
We’ll cover all costs so all you need to do is provide a loving home for your foster cat and send us lots of photos so we can give their owner updates. Fostering with our service is completely confidential, so you won’t actually know anything about the owner and they also won’t know your identity either. All communication goes through our dedicated Lifeline team to maintain anonymity.
